In 2024, Americans spent $8.5 billion on hot dogs and sausages in US supermarkets.

Los Angeles residents have plenty to be proud of as they watch their Dodgers kick off the 2025 MLB season this week in Tokyo, Japan. After winning its eighth World Series title last October, new data from the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council shows the City of Angels might have an even more impressive title to boast.

For more than a decade, LA has held the spot as the No. 1 hot dog consuming city in the country, purchasing more than 27 million pounds of hot dogs in 2024. LA comfortably outpaced New York and Dallas, which recorded a still-impressive 18.7 million and 13.6 million pounds of hot dogs at retail, respectfully. See below for the full Top Ten lists.

Dodger Stadium also consistently sells the most hot dogs in baseball, averaging around 2.5 million hot dogs per season.

“Baseball and hot dogs are a great American tradition,” said National Hot Dog and Sausage Council President and Hot Dog Top Dog, Eric Mittenthal. “But hot dogs and sausages are beloved no matter the venue as retail sales remain strong.”

Americans in total purchased more than 2 billion pounds of hot dogs and sausages at retail last year, and while LA led the charge for hot dogs, it was New Yorkers that carried the sausage category. New Yorkers edged out LA, with more than 35 million pounds of sausages consumed vs LA’s 34 million.

When looking at hot dog and sausage consumption on a per capita basis, though, we see another story unfold: hot dog and sausage hubs are forming in the South.

Per capita, the top five hot dog consuming cities each reside in North Carolina, Kentucky, and Tennessee – and the top sausage consuming cities per capita are mostly concentrated in Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama.

More specifically, Greensboro, NC, Charlotte, NC, and Paducah, KY, earned the top three hot dog consuming cities per capita, while Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Dallas rounded out the top three sausage consuming cities per capita.

All in all, Americans spent about $8.5 billion on hot dogs and sausages in U.S. supermarkets last year.

As Americans continue to prioritize price, convenience, taste and protein, consumers are poised to continue adding hot dogs and sausages to their shopping carts in 2025 and beyond. For more hot dog and sausage data, facts, figures and more, visit www.hot-dog.org.
