Washington, D.C., February 14, 2011 — With frigid temperatures outside, stay warm inside with a new collection of soup recipes from the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council.

“There is nothing like a bowl of homemade soup to heat you up when the winter winds are whipping outside,” said National Hot Dog & Sausage Council President Janet Riley. “These four new soup recipes, from Spanish to Italian, white bean to southwestern, are easy to make, affordable, delicious and tummy warming.”

Try some of these soups as a starter, but some are hearty enough to serve as a main dish, whether for lunch or dinner:

  • Northern Italian Minestrone with Sausage. A colorful Minestrone classic with carrots, green beans and zucchini, full of Italian flavor using Italian sausage, basil and oregano leaves and Parmesan cheese.
  • Smoked Sausage and White Bean. Try making this “white” soup one day before serving to intensify the flavors. Any smoked sausage can be incorporated, like kielbasa or andouille.
  • Spanish Chorizo Soup. Zesty chorizo sausage highlights this hearty soup that features Spanish onions and potatoes. This soup is a meal in itself.
  • Sausage Taco Soup. Break out the spicy breakfast sausage for this southwestern classic. All of the classic taco flavors, including tortilla chips, can be found in this soup!
